Blue Rodeo Online:

In the mid-80’s, Blue Rodeo was the hottest band on the Toronto club circuit and there was no reason not to believe that their success wouldn’t continue to grow. Only a few months later, after the album’s initial single flopped, the band was told their future with the label was bleak. And then “Try” was released. MuchMusic took a chance and put the video into heavy rotation. Radio soon followed their lead and embraced the song, setting Blue Rodeo on a remarkable career path that has led to over 4 million records sold, multiple JUNO Awards, world-wide tours, an induction into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame and a Star on the Walk of Fame. In the ensuing years, the band has survived a number of changes but with the songwriting and voices of Jim Cuddy and Greg Keelor at its heart, Blue Rodeo has become one of this country’s most successful bands – both critically and commercially – all the while influencing the evolving sound of Canadian music.

In the beginning critics scrambled to describe Blue Rodeo’s sound, comparing them to everyone from the Flying Burrito Brothers to the Eagles and the Beatles. Today, Blue Rodeo is compared to no one. They are the standard to which other bands are now compared. Ever-evolving, it is a testament to Blue Rodeo’s creativity that the band can endure a lifetime of challenges and continue to make music that all Canadians can call their own.
