Horatiu Rădulescu (France; born in Romania): Sonata no.1 op.5, "Cradle to Abysses" (1968)

Udo Kasemets (Canada; born in Estonia): Feigenbaum Cascades (1995)

Gerald Barry (Ireland): Humiliated and Insulted (2013; written for Stephen Clarke)

Giacinto Scelsi (Italy): Suite no.7 (1939)

Gerald Barry (Ireland): Au Milieu (1981)

Arraymusic’s resident piano virtuoso, Stephen Clarke presents a concert of works by four radically singular composers, Giacinto Scelsi (1905–1988), Udo Kasemets (1919-2014), Horatiu Rădulescu (1942-2008) and Gerald Barry (1952). All four composers bring together extreme clarity with unsettling strangeness. All four bring together deeply affecting sensuality/viscerality with erudite, provocative connections to, and confrontations with, culture and history (not only involving other musics past and present, but also literature, science, philosophy...). And, all four are composers whom Stephen Clarke is internationally renowned for championing, both through live performances and recordings released on important new music labels such as Mode and Hat Art.
