Join the Rowers Reading Series on Tuesday, December 6 for a stellar evening of poetry and prose featuring Frances Boyle, Charlene Challenger, Robert Colman and Mary Lou Dickinson. (see bios below.)
Note: we are an early evening event. Supermarket's back room doors open at 6:30 pm, readings beging at 7pm sharp and evening ends at 8:30pm. Admission is free and we pass a hat for a voluntary donations. Supermarket offers a great food menu, so come early and enjoy dinner before the readings!
Accessibility: Supermarket just obtained a ramp for out front (although usage is to be confirmed) which can take up to 600 lbs. There are 3 steps. Washrooms are not fully accessible, although they can work for some. Closest accesible transit are the new Spadina streetcars. There is a Green Parking lot on Bellevue, which has some accesible parking spots and very limited parking on Augusta Avenue.

Frances Boyle is the author of the poetry collection, Light-carved Passages from BuschekBooks, and a chapbook, Portal Stones, which won the Tree Reading Series chapbook contest. Her poems and short stories have appeared in literary magazines and anthologies in Canada and the U.S., including Fiddlehead, Grain, Room, The New Quarterly, Canthius, Vallum, Arc, Prairie Fire, CV2, ByWords, Flat Singles Press and Moonset. Other prizes she’s received include This Magazine’s Great Canadian Literary Hunt (first place for poetry and third place for fiction in the same year) and the Diana Brebner Prize. She is a member of Arc Poetry Magazine’s editorial board.
Charlene Challenger is a graduate of the Ryerson Theatre School. Her first book, The Voices in Between, was shortlisted for an Aurora Award and longlisted for a Sunburst Award. Her second book, The Myth in Distance, was released in the fall of 2016. She lives in Toronto with her husband, their son and their dog.
Rob Colman is a Newmarket, Ont.-based writer and editor. He is the author of two full-length poetry collections, Little Empires (Quattro Books 2012) and The Delicate Line (Exile Editions 2008). In 2015, his chapbook Factory was published by Frog Hollow Press. Colman received his MFA from UBC this year, poems from which have recently appeared in Hamilton Arts & Letters and Poetry Ireland Review.
Mary Lou Dickinson grew up in northern Quebec and migrated to Toronto via Montreal and Michigan. She studied Arts at McGill University and Library Science at University of Toronto before discovering workshops and residencies in creative writing. Her fiction has appeared in a number of literary journals and broadcast on CBC Radio. She is the author of three books: the short fiction collection One Day It Happens and the novels Ile d'Or and Would I Lie to You?
