Newly landed in Toronto, Mamalia was previoulsy shaking up the Chicago, VanCity & Stockholm music scenes with her raw funk, boogie & cosmic soul sound!

First introduced to the art world by way of her involvement as lead vocalist/writer for juno nominated contemporary jazz band SEKOYA, the past decade has been that of exponential growth. Circling the globe, playing from Tokyo to London, she has been pushing herself outside of the genre box, mind you she always seems to come back to the FUNK. Formulating with a hybrid of music visionaries from Senegal to France and joyful collaborations with those such as Atjazz, Domu, AD Bourke, Onra, Opolopo, Reggie B, Blaktroniks, Boddhi Satva, Son Of Kick, Grems, Probe DMS, Altered Natives, B.Bravo, Teeko, Afronaut of Bugz in the Attic, soul heavies Doug Shorts of Masterplan Inc. & Ike Stubblefield of the Motown Review.

2 solo LPS later MAMALIA is born, what next?

"Wow, AMALIA is dope!" - Q-Tip
"You are SUCH a boss." - Kimbra
"First Lady Of Modern Funk." - KPFK Radio LA

This month we'll be showcasing some of our favorite women in music!
It goes without saying that most female artists often times don't get the same level of respect, accolades or level of fame that men do in our bizzare, male-dominated music industry. We recognize this and want to shine some light on some of our favorite female artists from the past to present. It's not a political thing necessarily, but it is def something we feel passionate about as lovers of great music and purveyors of dance floor rhythms. We owe a great debt of gratitude to countless women who've fought through the bullsh*t and come out on top, leaving us their incredible legacies and rich catalogue of music...

So expect killer tracks from all time classic artists to the fresh new up and coming talents. Featuring the sounds of Jazz, Soul, Funk, Disco, Latin, Brasilian, Reggae, Hip Hop, House and more. Whether they're a vocalist, musician, producer, songwriter or arranger, chances are we'll be giving it a spin (only the heavy dancefloor stuff of course!)

So spread the word...this one's gonna be a scorcher!!
