Come Up To My Room est unique parmi les expositions parce que nous invitons des artistes et designers afin de transformer notre ancien Hôtel de 125 ans avec de nouvelles installations très spécifique, plutôt que de simplement commissionner des oeuvres déjà créées. Les curateurs se partagent le risque avec les artistes et leur font confiance afin de pousser leur pratique au-delà même de leurs propres attentes. Cela signifie que, jusqu’à l’ouverture du salon, nous même ne sommes pas tout à fait sûr de ce qui va se passer!
Come Up To My Room is unique amongst exhibitions because we invite artists and designers to transform our 125 year old Hotel with brand new site-specific installations, rather than just curating existing work. The curators share the risk with the artists and trust them to push their practice beyond even their own expectations. This means that until the show opens, even we are not quite sure what will happen!
Thirteen…an unlucky number for some, but not for Come Up to My Room (CUTMR). This year’s event, the 13th edition, will showcase the work of new and established artists, designers and collectives from Canada and the US. Framed within the backdrop of the historic Gladstone Hotel, #CUTMR2016 invites artists to inhabit three floors with site-specific, immersive installations that stimulate the imagination and encourage discussion and dialogue between contributors and visitors.
Coming from the fields of architecture and exhibition design, this year’s curators, Jana Macalik and Nuria Montblanch have reengaged with the heritage of CUTMR, focusing on the spatial sensory experiences and design as the medium.
