Hen Mazzig: Sitting On The Fence says
CAMERA on Campus and the Israeli Students Association - York University presents: Hen Mazzig.

Hen Mazzig is a young, energetic Israeli – a writer, international speaker, social media activist and advocate for his country. Hen’s family comes from Iraq and North Africa (Berber Jews from Tunisia), and is a part of the 850,000 Jewish refugees that were expelled from and murdered in Muslim countries in the 1950s.

As a young Israeli, Hen served in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) for almost five years as an openly gay commander. During his service as a lieutenant in the IDF’s COGAT unit, he worked as an intermediary between the IDF, the Palestinian Authority, the UN, and the many NGOs that work in the West Bank. Hen’s unit was responsible for overseeing the construction of medical facilities, schools, environmental projects, roads, water-related infrastructure, and for security coordination with the Palestinian Authority’s Security Forces.

Today Hen speaks on campuses around the world, sharing his unique story and through it, the story of Israel - a liberal and free democracy that cherishes human rights and civil equality.
He has been the target of countless attacks by anti-Israel students for sharing his story and speaking out for his country, most recently in London, where a mob of 100 students tried to prevent him from speaking at University College London. Hen is determined to share his story and foster meaningful and nuanced dialogue - which he believes is the path to peace.

The location will be the Victor Phillip Dahdaleh (former TEL building), room 1005.

Join us for a fun session with Hen where he will be sharing his personal stories and experiences (including a Q&A). Free Israeli food will also be provided so the Israeli vibes are felt both within and without ;)
