Invocation Presents Psychic Ills With His Clancyness & Whimm says
Invocation closes out its summer programming with this heady af bill!

Former-American noisemakers / current cosmic slowburners, PSYCHIC ILLS have been releasing tripped out psych records for a decade now. These last few, (including new Sacred Bones LP "Inner Journey Out") reaching into territory mined by legendary acts like Mazzy Star and The Jesus & Mary Chain. Hope Sandoval (of Mazzy Star) herself guests on the new record and this is the Ills' first appearance in TO since their very well recieved opening slot for that reunited super group at The Danforth Music Hall last year.

HIS CLANCYNESS (Balogna, Italy)

His Clancyness began life as the solo project of Canadian singer/guitarist Jonathan Clancy but has since found a new form inspired by the camaraderie of life on the road. The group has evolved into a collaborative tour-hardened minimal noise-pop machine that features Jacopo Beta’s propulsive drumming, Giulia Mazza’s alien synthesizers, the commanding low thump of Nico Pasquini’s bass playing along with Clancy’s trademark fidgeting guitar work and his usual stirring lyrical resolve.

Over the last two years the band have retired to their Bologna basement HQ, Strange City Studios to put to use the newly-honed aesthetic and write a new clutch of anti-hits. Here they conducted late-night 4track experiments, embarked upon curious sonic investigations, threw the odd party and emerged with fistfuls of inspired compositions that make up their compelling new album.

and Toronto's own WHIMM!

Bringing to the fore raw dissonance that clash with sharp melodies, WHIMM is a Toronto three piece that bristles with moments of clarity and ruin. Formed by Mounir Chami (guitar/vox) and Andrew Matthews (bass), the band reached its current sound with the arrival of Jonathan Pappo (drums). After two EPs, the band is in the midst of completing their debut LP, sonically drawing on traditions of no-wave, baroque, american western, and noise.
