BellyUp Presents Karim Nagi!

Dancers get ready... the Finger Cymbal Revolution is here! This is a 1-Day intensive designed for Bellydancers of any genre. Raqs Sharki, Arab Folklore, ATS, Tribal Fusion - whatever you're genre - let's unite for one day of the funkiest, the most fascinating, the most fabulous finger cymbal workshop ever with the amazing Karim Nagi!

Finger Cymbals, also known as Sagat (Egyptian word) or Zills (Turkish word), when played correctly, add to a dancer's dynamism and effect. You are a dancer and a musician at the same time, and your hands can play any rhythm that a drummer can play. You can accent the orchestra, follow the dynamics of the song, or simply choose the right moment to not play. In this course, you will learn multiple sounds (Dum, Tak, Tik, Tok, Kish) to give the cymbals the desperately needed variety. Karim will teach you ambidextrous technique, so you can play, and move, in both left and right directions, and he will also cover a number of famous rhythms so that you can communicate to a drummer or to your own students or dance partners. In addition, Karim will show you how to play with a melodic song, when to play a rhythm vs. accents, and when to stop or not play. Finally, he will show movement combinations, both stationary and traveling, while playing the cymbals. Each dancer will be transformed into a moving musician in this training intensive!
