D'bi & The 333
An Afro-Dub-Tryp band founded by queen-daughter of dub poetry, d'bi.young anitafrika and Sudanese master musician Waleed Abdulhamid, D'BI. & THE 333 features d'bi. on vocals, Waleed on guitar, Odel Johnson on drums, Chris Butcher on trombone and Patrick O'Reilly on guitar, creating a mesmerising new sound. Think Lady Saw's Dancehall meets Skunk Anansie's punk rock while mellowing to the enchantment of Tracy Chapman, infused with the seductive poetics of Nina Simone jiving to the polyrhythms of Fela Kuti! Afro-Dub-Tryp Stylee!

Montreal-based super group Abakos is what happens when the Afro-futuristic sounds of Juno Award and Polaris Prize nominee Pierre Kwenders teams up with fellow Congolese-Canadian vocalist Ngabonziza Kiroko (Dear Denizen) and his Afro-electric-indie-rock sensibilities. This is their Toronto concert debut to premiere their first EP New Constellation that features production by Nashville trio Basecamp (signed to Skrillex’s Owsla record label) and Jamie Lidell.
Presented in association with AMW (African Music Week).
