Only One Gallery is pleased to announce Objective/Subjective, a solo exhibition by Alejandro A Rebollar Heres. Born in Havana, Heres now maintains a multi-media practice in Toronto and is, along with Gabirel Graham, a founding member of the artist’s collective CUNA.

In keeping with the collaborative spritit of his practice, the works in this exhibition feature contributions by both Graham and another Toronto artist Dylan Roworth.

Objective/Subjective features paintings and sculptural installations which draw on Heres’ background in architecture and environmental design. Hovering between figuration and abstraction, his large-scale neo-expressionist canvases are distinguished by their at once muscular and lyrical use of gesture and their bold use of color. For their part, the
sculptural installations consist of welded metal constructions that
frequently incorporate found elements in a manner somewhat reminiscent of the British sculptor Bill Woodrow. Sometimes freeing standing, sometimes attached to pieces of furniture, these works draw more explicitly on Heres’ interest in the built environment, often creating micro-worlds that suggest the scale and spirit of architectural models.

In all his work across diverse media, Heres is concerned to reveal what he describes as the symbolic and magical properties of materials (wood, iron, canvas).

Please join us for this exciting exhibition by one of Toronto’s most promising emerging artists.
