Queering Mythologies: Queer & Trans Youth Arts Programs says

“Queering Mythologies” is an 8-week zine making workshop series for up to 20 young people ages 11-15. Its aim is to create a collective zine through the process of giving and receiving stories and writing and illustrative narratives exchanged through conversation and sharing. The project aims to use tactics of queer organizing by making narratives which have been rendered invisible, visible. By taking the idea of myth which is traditionally reserved for high status and rendering the everyday ways in which we overcome oppression or gain agency heroic, “Queering Mythologies” seeks to teach participants to delight in their identities and where they come from and pay homage to one another by retelling each other’s stories and sharing it with the world. The workshop will operate from an anti-oppression framework and emphasize principles of mutual respect, consent and staying safe in sharing personal stories. Artistically, “Queering Mythologies” hopes to provide concrete skills in zine making, visual arts, and creative writing.

Facilitators: Parker Dirks & Fiona Raye Clarke (Slanted Arts)
