Years after losing contact with the ship “Event Horizon” when it slipped into deep space in a black hole, it finally reappears near Neptune, but this time with something, or someone else on board. Horrifying recordings are recovered, with unidentified screaming intermingled with eerie Latin phrasing, making it initially appear as though the crew had killed one another. A recovery mission is sent to the ship, led by Captain Miller (Laurence Fishburne) and Dr. Weir (Sam Neill), and almost immediately after arriving on deck, terrible hallucinations are experienced, targeting each individual fear, and maximizing on each person’s pain and loss to create hideous and ghastly visions of Hell.

Event Horizon remains today as unadulterated nightmare fodder. It is a masterful and unique vision of Hell, with such dense atmosphere and vice-grip tight suspense that allow the movie to be unsullied by time and just as frightening as it was then. Event Horizon is an absolute must-see in the annals of horror sci-fi, with a Clive Barker tone rocketed into space that will keep audiences justifiably terrified of the outer unknown, and kissing the solid ground beneath them.
