CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS - Salon of Inclusiveness 2016, Holiday Show + Sale

Back for the third year now, our biggest and most inclusive group show of the year!

The Black Cat’s 3rd annual, Salon of Inclusiveness

Exhibition runs from November 17th –December 31st 2016
SUBMISSION DEADLINE: October 23rd, 2016

To celebrate the end of the year, we are using the fundamental idea of crowdsourcing to bring together a large and inclusive group show. No medium or work will be rejected from this show, the only requirement is that it can be hung on our gallery walls, sized no more than 4 and a half feet in width or height, and maximum 2x artworks by any one artist.

Photos from last years show:

As an alternative space, Black Cat Artspace doesn't have to answer to any particular set of aesthetics or rules, and as a result has seen a wide variety of shows, in a wide variety of mediums grace the walls over the past three and a half years.

The Salon of Inclusiveness, is a play and positive take on the Salon des Refusés:

"In 1863 two thirds of paintings presented at the Paris Salon were refused, including the works of Courbet, Édouard Manet, Camille Pissaro and Johan Jongkind. The works which didn't align with the Emperor's traditional tastes we're upon protest shown in another part of the palace as the "Salon des Refusés." The critical attention served to legitimize the emerging avant-garde in painting."

Due to the popularity of the show last year we will be hosting THREE Opening reception(s):

November 17th, 2016 - 7pm - 10:30pm
November 18th, 2016 - 7pm - 10:30pm
November 25th, 2016 - 7pm - 10:30pm

Near the beginning of each opening there will be time for a friendly and informal critique where anyone showing can explain their work and others will have a chance to offer a critique or ask questions.

Exhibition runs from November 17th –December 31st 2016

Gallery hours: Wednesday - Saturday: 2-7pm
Monday-Tuesday: Closed

We've determined a safe estimate of the usable wall space of hanging a show salon style in the space, allowing for varying sizes and shapes and have determined a set hanging fee of $25.00 per 12 inch x 12 inch square, last year some people submitted too many works so there is a limit of a maximum of 2 works per artist and no work can be over 4 and a half feet in width or height.

And like every show we host the work can be for sale, commission free!
