Come & get a copy of Virtual Bodies, the 7th issue of CRITpaper, at its first Toronto launch.

CRITpaper is a free biannual newsprint publication curating contemporary criticism. It has been produced and circulated nationally by The Khyber Centre for the Arts in Halifax, NS, since fall 2012. IRL back issues will be available at the launch; URL at critpaper.ca/

This is the first installment of our “Virtual Existence” 2015/16 publishing cycle, where we will examine separate facets of this theme through “Virtual Bodies,” “Virtual Landscapes,” and “Virtual Archives.” Our goal in undertaking this year-long investigation is to provide CRITpaper readers and contributors with an offline site from which to critique online culture and the internet age in the provisional form of a newsprint periodical.
“Virtual Bodies” asks contributors to consider both the current realities and future possibilities of virtual existence as pertains to human life, the body, identity, and subjectivity. How do we know ourselves when the “self” has multiplied and taken up residence across so many platforms? What impact have these ideas had in culture? How can we begin to imagine a “post-human” world? Is this vision utopian or dystopian – or neither? How can critical discourse help us to understand the interrelations of people and technology?

We accept submissions in all forms, with a preference for essays, interviews, exhibition reviews, book reviews, artist interventions, creative nonfiction, fiction, and poetry. Direct all submissions, project proposals or inquiries to thecritnewspaper@gmail.com.
