Wood-Fired Baking at Montgomery's Inn

Discover bread-baking as it once was, in the historic wood-burning oven at Montgomery’s Inn.

Explore the plethora of things that can be made in a wood-burning oven at the historical Montgomery’s Inn. Built in 1830, the original inn is now a museum that offers visitors a look back in time through the history of Toronto as well as community programming. The inn’s historical kitchen includes both an indoor and an outdoor wood-burning oven that students will use to bake a full menu of breads, pizza, focaccia, cherry buns, and more. Work with our expert bread baking instructor to learn about baking in this unique oven that allows you to explore a range of temperatures as well as discover exceptional flavours created in this time-honoured baking method.

In addition, students will have an opportunity to tour the inn — restored to reflect life in the 1850s — with a guide. Discover the life of the innkeepers and guests as you explore the inn’s historic dining room, kitchen, tavern, and rooms.

Learn the fundamentals essential to successfully cooking and baking in a wood-fire oven in this one-of-a-kind experience.
