Youth / Elders Project Fall Workshop Series: Act 1-The Beginning

Buddies, The 519 and the Senior Pride Network invite queer and trans identified people age 25 and under, and 55 and over to take part in a weekly arts-based workshop series. The aim is to investigate, document and express contemporary queer life from both sides of a generational divide. The series runs September 17th through December 5th, 2016. Workshops are on Saturday afternoons from 2-5pm at the 519 for the elders group (55+), and Monday evenings 6-9pm at Buddies for youth group (25 and under); on select dates listed below, both groups meet together. You do not need any previous stage experience to attend these workshops. We are not looking for professional actors. We are looking for a diverse group of curious queers: people who are interested in storytelling and sharing their lived experience with folks from another generation. To attend any of the workshops in the series, fill in the registration form and submit it; you will receive confirmation of receipt:

The workshop sessions are designed to build on each other and participants are encouraged to attend at least 6 sessions. Facilitators will ensure each session is accessible to folks who can only drop in from time to time.

PLEASE NOTE: Upon completion, we will be putting together a group of youth and elders to create and perform an original production presented as part of Buddies’ Mainstage season in May/June 2017, directed by Buddies’ artistic director Evalyn Parry. Participants from the Youth / Elders Fall Workshop Series Act 1: The Beginning will be invited to audition. We will be casting with attention to diverse ages and cultural, sexual and gender expressions and identities. Participants will be required to commit to weekly rehearsals from January through May, in addition to an intensive, full-time paid rehearsal period leading up to the production (May 14-June 4, 2017).
