From the temples of Kyoto to the skyscrapers of Tokyo, Japan has long been a bucket-list travel destination – but in recent years the east Asian country’s popularity has really boomed. Bolstered by a weaker yen (meaning your pounds stretch further), a whopping 437,000 Brits visited the Land of the Rising Sun in 2024 – up more than a third on 2023.

And now, to make the most of that demand, British Airways has launched more flights to Japan from the UK. BA has doubled its number of daily flights from London Heathrow (LHR) airport to to Tokyo Haneda (HND).

The UK’s national carrier now boasts 14 flights weekly from Heathrow to Haneda, and one of those daily flights is operated on its fuel-efficient A350-1000 fleet of planes. BA also expanded its codeshare agreement with Japan Airlines, adding 14 more weekly flights to the route.

The demand for BA’s new service works both ways. Japanese visitors to the UK are also on the up, with a VisitBritain forecast estimating more than 393,000 visits to Britain from Japan in 2025.

Commenting on the boosted service, chief planning and strategy officer Neil Chernoff said: ‘We’re delighted to resume our second daily flight service between London Heathrow and Tokyo Haneda as the route is one of our longest-served and most valued destinations.

‘This increased frequency combined with our modern fleet and premium Club Suite highlights our commitment to providing our customers with exceptional comfort and connectivity, making travel between the UK and Japan, as well as across our extensive network more convenient than ever.’

The boosted service is already up and running, having launched on March 30. Book and find out more on the BA website here.
