The UK’s 3 greatest beaches, according to Skyscanner

The UK’s hottest summer on record is slowly coming to an end, and a pleasant, bright autumn lays ahead of us. Just in time for the last bursts of sunshine, Skyscanner has put together its list of the best beaches in the UK. 

Skyscanner’s list is made using a few different metrics, including average air and sea temperature, sun lounger availability and reviews. You’ve got the highest chance of stretching summer out just that little bit longer at these three spots – and maybe, just maybe, the water won’t be too cold to get in. 

If three aren’t enough for you to choose from, just take a look at Time Out’s guide to the 40 finest beaches in the UK, which spans English villages, Welsh islands, the Scottish Highlands and the Northern Irish coastline. In the meantime, here are Skyscanner’s picks. 

The 3 best beaches in the UK, according to Skyscanner 

Sandbanks Beach 

Taking the number one spot is Sandbanks Beach in Dorset, and it’s not hard to see why. With an average peak-season temperature of 20.8C and Blue Flag water quality status, it's a prime spot for swimmers and sunbathers alike. Plus, it topped TripAdvisor’s list of ‘most sustainable beaches’ in 2024 for its litter-free sands and pristine sea. 

Botany Bay 

Next was Botany Bay in Kent, easily recognised by its white chalk cliffs. There’s no funfairs to be found here – just a seaside kiosk, and swimmers enjoying the warm waters. At an average sea temperature at 22.5C, it’s the warmest spot on the list for a dip. Take a walk along the Viking Coastal Trail for the best ocean views. 

St Andrews West Sands

We’re heading to Scotland for the number three pick: St Andrews West Sands. Two miles of wild golden sands make for the perfect beach-walk scenery, and means you’re never at risk of struggling for a sunbathing spot. Its proximity to town certainly helps its 4.7 Tripadvisor rating – it takes only a 15 minute walk to leave the bustling centre and reach this quiet coastal haven.
