Turns out Sin City is no match for Crescent City.

What happens in Vegas might stay in Vegas—but that could be because the most nightlife-dense destination in North America is currently New Orleans.
Airport transfer company Hoppa analyzed nightlife hot spots across the continent, ranking destinations based on the concentration of nightlife venues, prices for hotels and beer, online search interest and airport transfer times. The winner on that concentration metric? New Orleans, which boasts an impressive 79.1 nightlife venues per 100,000 residents and beats perennial party capital Las Vegas.

That density is nearly eight times the study average of 10 nightlife venues per 100,000 people, meaning revelers don’t have to wander far between bars, clubs and live music venues. Whether you’re sipping a Sazerac in the French Quarter, catching live jazz on Frenchmen Street or dancing until sunrise, the Big Easy packs more nightlife into a smaller footprint than anywhere else in the rankings.
Las Vegas came in second with 70.8 nightlife venues per 100,000 residents. Sin City remains one of the world’s most famous after-dark playgrounds thanks to its casinos, megaclubs and 24-hour entertainment—and when taking all factors into account, it boasted the highest-rated party scene in the country on Hoppa’s list (New Orleans tied for third with Orlando).
The rest of the top 10 stretches from Florida to the Caribbean and Mexico, highlighting destinations that combine warm weather with lively evenings. Cozumel claimed third place, followed by Orlando, Cabo San Lucas, Antigua, Miami, Playa del Carmen, Atlanta and Tampa.
Of course, nightlife is about more than numbers. New Orleans’ mix of legendary music venues, historic bars and late-night culture has long made it one of America’s most distinctive destinations after dark, while Las Vegas continues to offer an unmatched scale of entertainment options. Still, if your ideal night out is measured by how many spots are within walking distance, this year’s study suggests the Crescent City is the place to be.
