Stay-at-home orders have turned us into a collection of eager bakers, curious chefs, excited binge-watchers, hopeful readers and—perhaps least surprisingly—cocktail connoisseurs. Even celebrities the likes of Stanley Tucci and Meryl Streep have been reveling in the relative excitement involved in preparing a lovely cocktail in our bathrobes, without feeling guilty about not having any other plans.
But what is it that we're actually drinking? According to Google, it depends on the state.
The search giant just released a list of the most "uniquely searched cocktails by state" in the past 30 days. What does "uniquely" mean, you may ask? Each highlighted cocktail is the most searched one within a certain state as compared to the rest of the country.
It turns out that the most popular drink across the nation is a classic Old Fashioned and we can't say we're surprised: the whiskey concoction is simultaneously simple (to make it, all you really need is some sugar, bitters and the spirit) but just labor-intensive enough to give us a stronger sense of satisfaction when preparing it than, say, sipping on a glass of Merlot would. Needless to say, the Old Fashioned reminds us of the evenings we used to spend at the neighborhood bar.
