This just in: the country's largest movie theater chain, AMC, is re-opening 100 of its locations on August 20 and—in an homage to the days of yore—will sell tickets for a mere 15 cents per movie. The astounding offering will only be valid on opening day.

Marketed as "movies in 2020 at 1920 prices," the promotion includes a very specific roster of films to be played at the cinemas. Among them: Grease, Black Panther, Ghostbusters and Back to the Future. Following opening day, the latter category of flicks will continue playing for $5.

Even more exciting than the news about the reopening is the confirmation of much-awaited new film releases. Christopher Nolan's Tenet is set to finally debut on September 3, for example. New Mutants, Disney's latest, will land in theaters on August 28, on the other hand.

The 100 theaters set to welcome guests against starting next week amount to about one-sixth of AMC's country-wide properties. The chain announced that it expects two thirds of its venues to be operational by the time Tenet is actually released.

AMC isn't alone in its decision: Regal Cinemas, the second largest chain in the country, is set to reopen some theaters by August 21. Needless to say, the movie-going experience will look and feel slightly different from what we're used to. Expect reduced capacity, social distancing cues, required face coverings and increased cleaning measures to define your visit.

Still don't feel safe? You might want to consider renting out an entire cinema for yourself, then.
