America is home to thousands of campgrounds, but the thrill of breathtaking scenery can be cancelled out by big crowds, noisy neighbors and neglected facilities. Where you stay makes all the difference, especially if you're looking for true peace and quiet. To find the ultimate quiet camping escapes, connectivity gear company Trio analyzed more than 111,000 customer reviews across 136 public campgrounds. By evaluating eight key categories—including cleanliness, facilities, staff, scenery and pest levels—the study identified the best campgrounds in America, including the most peaceful.

The country's most peaceful campgrounds may not be the most popular, the most hyped or the most scenic, but they offer a chance to get away from it all and truly unwind in the serenity of nature. The most peaceful campground in the U.S. actually scored big all around, claiming the title of the best overall campground nationwide as well: Schoodic Woods Campground in Winter Harbor, Maine.

Schoodic Woods Campground is a gem within Acadia National Park, set back on the quiet Schoodic Peninsula away from the high-traffic Mount Desert Island loops. Opened in 2015, it was specifically designed with spacious, heavily wooded campsites that provide natural sound barriers and ample privacy between visitors. Its network of tranquil hiking trails and paved bike paths leads directly to dramatic, granite-lined ocean views, allowing campers to experience Maine's rugged coastline without the typical national park crowds.

The remaining peaceful campgrounds highlight a diverse mix of quiet sanctuaries across the country. Piney Bay Campground (London, Arkansas) secured second place for tranquil waterside camping along Lake Dardanelle. Jedediah Smith Campground (Crescent City, California) earned third place from its perch beneath northern California's towering ancient redwoods. Willow Beach Recreation Area & Campground (Scott, Arkansas) and Piney Grove Campground (New Site, Mississippi) round out the top five.

For campers looking for tranquility when heading to Yosemite, note that Hodgdon Meadow ranked the lowest on the peace and quiet scale.
