We've got to give it to New Orleans residents: they haven't let COVID-19 stop them from celebrating what is arguably one of the most important local calendar events of the year—Mardi Gras. Although this year's parades are officially cancelled, locals have decided to convert their homes into stationary "floats," and the results are a feast for the eyes.

Mardi Gras officially takes place on February 16 but the "float houses" have already taken over the city. There is even an official, city-wide map available for browsing online that highlights where several thousands are located—just in case you're in town and want to plan a socially distanced tour of the grandiosities.

Below, check out a selection of some of the most amazing house floats we've seen so far.
