We were going to suggest you add Elon Musk's Tesla-branded tequila to your holiday wish list but, alas, the $250 product has already sold out.
Released late last week, the spirit was only available in certain states and each customer was allowed to purchase two bottles only. And yet, supplies lasted just a few hours.
Tesla's website describes the lightening-shaped 750mL bottle donning the company's logo as an "exclusive, premium 100% de agave tequila añejo aged in French oak barrels, featuring a dry fruit and light vanilla nose with a balanced cinnamon pepper finish."
In a very Musk-like turn of events, the CEO actually jokingly teased the release a Tesla tequila on Twitter back on April Fools Day in 2018, also mentioning his filing of an application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to trademark the name "Teslaquila." Clearly, joke's on all of us given the popularity of the released product a whole two years after that odd announcement.
Believe it or not, this isn't Tesla's first foray into non-electric endeavors. In July, as a nod to the investors that "shorted" the company's stock, Musk's team started selling satin red gym "short shorts" for $69.420 each. Funny indeed.
If you really want to get your hands on one of the few Tesla-branded tequilas produced, you might want to scroll through eBay. Fair warning, though: the limited-edition spirit is selling at an exorbitant premium—up to $900 for an empty bottle. Yes, you read that right.
