In an effort to spur people to go out and vote next month, Lyft just announced new measures that will grant folks access to free and/or discounted rides.

When using code 2020VOTE on November 3, riders will enjoy a 50% off discount on a ride of up to $10 to any polling location or drop box.

The company has also partnered with non-profit organizations like the National Federation of the Blind, Black Women's Roundtable and the Student Veterans of America, which will distribute free ride codes directly to underserved communities.

"This year, no matter how you choose to cast your vote, access to transportation should not be a barrier," reads the official blog announcing the news. "COVID-19 has added even more complexities to exercising the right to vote—whether you vote by mail, drop your ballot at a collection site, or vote in person."

Although the global pandemic has clearly complicated everything and will forever taint this year's upcoming election, the release mentions that during the last election, "it's estimated that more than 15 million eligible voters didn't go to the polls in large part because they lacked a way to get there." It's obvious there is a problem out there and we hope that Lyft's new plans will assuage the issues.

If you're voting by mail, don't forget to consult our step-by-step guide to make sure that you're vote is properly counted. And, lest you forgot it's 2020, may we remind you that there's an asteroid set to pass by planet Earth the day before the election
