Planning an upcoming summer trip? So are plenty of others around the country. TripAdvisor’s 2023 Seasonal Travel Index has been released and shows that 82 percent of those surveyed in the U.S. plan to take a trip this summer. The travel bug has hit and we’re ready to make up for lost time.

According to the survey, 55 percent of those U.S. travelers plan to travel more and 60 percent think they’ll spend more this time around, as compared to last year. In fact, 31 percent plan to take three to five trips. Check your calendars if you haven’t picked dates yet—the survey also reveals that the most popular travel week in the U.S. is June 12 through 18, with the most popular travel day being June 3.

So where is everyone going? The survey indicates a preference for domestic travel. According to the index, 70 percent of U.S. travelers say they plan to travel domestically. They’ll be heading to Orlando, Myrtle Beach, Vegas, Honolulu and NYC. Sounds like most people need a beach break and some fun in the sun.

Just 6 percent of U.S. travelers will travel internationally, 25 percent said they have both domestic and international trips planned. While globally the top international destinations include Paris, Rome and London (the survey also included travelers from around the world), U.S. travelers venturing abroad are sticking closer to home on average, with the top spot being Cancun. Paris, Punta Cana, London, Cabo San Lucas and Rome follow in the list. Again we see some beach destinations in the top spots.

Travelers also seem to be interested in pre-booking trip activities, a growing trend. About 75 percent indicated they will book activities ahead of time, while 20 percent will wait until a few weeks out. The surprising age group booking activities and experiences? Gen Z and Millennial travelers—68 percent as compared to 41 percent for older age groups.
