RECOMMENDED: This is officially America's best city for nightlife right now
It's no surprise that The Golden State was crowned the most fun state in the U.S. Thrill-seekers have a wealth of amusement parks to visit. Cinema lovers revel in the fact that California boasts one of the highest numbers of movie theaters per capita. The state ranks second overall in the number of tourist attractions, and the sheer number of restaurants is staggering. The state's wineries draw enthusiasts from all over the world. When it comes to nightlife, California can't be beat, with a range of performing-arts venues, music festivals and bars. Then there's the outdoors. Cali has unforgettable scenic byways, some of the best beach access in the U.S. and unbeatable weather. With all these options, California ensures fun is never optional.
Florida comes in hot at number two. The Sunshine State is packed with restaurants, amusement parks, arcades and music festivals, plus the most marinas in the country and miles upon miles of shoreline. Government spending on parks and recreation is high, and Floridians themselves put their money where their joy is, shelling out nearly $2,300 a year on recreation.
Rounding out the top three is Nevada, no surprise. Las Vegas alone guarantees the Silver State’s reputation, but the fun isn’t limited to the Strip. Nevada has the most nightlife options per capita, cheap drinks and around-the-clock bars. Pair that with stunning national parks and the country’s second-best weather, and you’ve got a state that knows how to play hard day or night.
Illinois and New York close out the top five. For a full breakdown of the most fun states and to see how all 50 states ranked, head over to WalletHub.
