For the past 29 years, White Castle has established itself as the dark horse of Valentine's Day hoopla. Back in 1991, the fast-food chain started the tradition of transforming its dining rooms into fine-dining destinations for the holiday: Tables are topped with cloth coverings, decorations are strewn about, and servers offer table-side service. It's become somewhat of a beloved tradition that attracts about 30,000 visitors annually.
Instead of scrapping this year's festivities due to COVID-19, White Castle is taking it outside and launching "Slider Lover's Point," a socially distanced drive-in dining experience that will take over more than 300 parking lots across the country. The one-day event requires a reservation via OpenTable and allows diners to book a dedicated parking space at White Castle on Sunday, February 14. Servers will offer classic carhop service, which means you won't need to leave your vehicle. While you wait for your Valentine's Day feast to be prepared, browse a provided brochure of car-friendly activities or tune into White Castle's special Spotify playlist, which is dubbed the "Slider Lover's Luv Channel."
"COVID forced us to re-imagine our annual Valentine's Day event," said White Castle vice president Jamie Richardson in a press release. "This creative and safe solution allows us to celebrate a tradition our customers love. We're happy to share that once again this Valentine's Day, White Castle will become Love Castle."
Newbies: It's worth noting that White Castle's Valentine's Day reservations typically go faster than a small order of fries, so you'll want to book soon if you're hoping to secure a parking spot. And if you can't snag a reservation, you can still swing by the drive-through (all of which will be open on February 14), pick up your food and find another place to park nearby.
This year, nothing says romance like square-cut sliders followed by dessert on a stick.
