Time Out says

We hope you will join Georgia WAND for the 13th Annual REAL State of the Union*. This year's theme is: How can we stop the root causes of systemic and environmental violence?" Everyone raved about last year's event, and this year Georgia WAND is fortunate to once again feature two of Atlanta's favorite journalists Jay Bookman (Columnist and blogger at the Atlanta Journal Constitution) and Janice Mathis (Vice President for Legal affairs for the Rainbow PUSH Coalition Regional Office in Atlanta). For this year's special guest responder, we'll hear from Aurielle Marie Lucier, Founder & Executive Organizer of #ItsBiggerThanYou, and one of Creative Loafing's Top 20 People to Watch in 2015. Special artistic visual facilitation will be provided by Brittany Curry of Milledgeville, GA. We look forward to hearing their take on what's really going on in the United States today. Reception: 6:30p Event: 7:00pm *This original Georgia WAND event began in February of 2003 as the U.S. was threatening an attack on the people of Iraq. Atlanta's peace and justice community was frustrated, and few journalists were challenging the Bush's administration's march to war. Jay Bookman, in his groundbreaking Atlanta-Journal Constition article, Bush's Real Goal in Iraq, revealed the neo-conservative plan, "The Project for the New American Century." Georgia WAND invited Jay to speak and engage the public at Horizon Theater in Little 5 Points, where a standing room only crowd listened and responded to this first REAL State of the Union. The Reverend Dr. Joseph E. Lowery was invited to give the response, and he did so for many years, followed by Andisheh Nouraee, from Creative Loafing, and Janice Mathis.
