The Consulate General of Israel to the Southeast is proud to bring Israeli journalist and author Eldad Beck to Atlanta this month. On Thursday, January 21, Beck will be highlighting his new book, "Germany, at Odds," as well as his journalism experiences in the Middle East. The event is co-sponsored by the American Jewish Committee, Atlanta Regional Office.

Eldad Beck has been the Berlin-based correspondent of the Israeli daily "Yedioth Ahronoth" since 2002, covering Germany, Central Europe, and the EU. He is one of the rare Israeli journalists who reported from Arab and Muslim countries - such as Iran, Syria, Iraq, Lebanon and Afghanistan - about major events in the Middle East. In 2009, Beck published his first book in Israel, Beyond the Border.

"Germany, at Odds" is Beck’s account as an Israeli journalist living and working in Germany at the beginning of the 21st century. It questions many assumptions about “the new Germany”: Is there really only one Germany or such a thing as “a German mentality”? Is Germany a strong and stable democracy in the heart of Europe? Have “the Germans” really confronted their past?

Eldad Beck was born in Haifa in 1965. He studied Arabic and Islam at the Sorbonne University in Paris; he was Middle East affairs correspondent of IDF Radio and the newspaper "Hadashot," as well as the Paris-based correspondent of IDF Radio, the Jerusalem Report, the Jerusalem Post, and Israel's Channel 2.

Tickets for the event are a nominal $5 per person. Please use the link above to RSVP for the event.
