Singing the Beloved: A workshop and concert event
5pm-6pm Music Workshop
6:15pm - Concert
Join award winning Canadian singer, prayer leader and teacher, Aviva Chernick for an intimate vocal workshop adventure leading into a lush and participatory duo concert featuring songs for the Beloved.

Since her successful 2010 AJMF and CBH Shabbat visit, and travels around the world with music and prayer, Jaffa Road lead singer Aviva Chernick returns for another exploration of the singing voice and the tender heart. The practice begins with yawning and sighing into sound riding on breath and full voiced group song.

After a short break, Aviva will return with musical partner, Joel Schwartz, to continue the practice, bringing an intimate concert of soulful, original world music for the end of Shabbat, inviting the audience to listen as well as to bring their warmed up voices and sing along. For the grand finale, Aviva and Joel will be joined by Will Robertson and CBH”s very own choir.

Come and bring your curiosity. No previous singing experience necessary.

About Aviva Chernick

Aviva Chernick has garnered critical acclaim and a devoted following as the charismatic lead singer of the twice JUNO-nominated group Jaffa Road. Now, with her eponymous solo project and her new World/Folk duo she has revealed stunning range in her musical persona. Travelling to perform and to lead prayer, Aviva pulls all of her skills together, engaging communities around the world in vocal adventures in her workshop on freeing the voice.

As an in-demand freelance musician, Joel has toured and recorded with a diverse range of artists. Recent credits include Amelia Curran, Birds of Chicago, Great Lake Swimmers, Royal Wood, The Lovelocks, Kate Rogers, Andrea Koziol, and many others.
