Billie Holiday On The Radio (In Decatur) says
Billie Holiday on the Radio is a unique blend of words and music featuring Chattanooga poet Laurie Perry Vaughen and Atanta jazz trio Three Way Mirror. Laurie's poems touch on music, race, poverty, technology, family, and the Southern experience. The musical score is composed and improvised to enhance the impact of the poetry.

"Accompanied by Three Way Mirror’s performance of [Jeff] Crompton’s exquisitely evocative score, Vaughen herded about the audience using sharply honed shards of narrative stories, dreamscape snapshots, and intimate and historical character studies. The overall effect of the 15 works, according to the poet, was designed to 'engage the listener in exploring tensions and technologies that continue to change the consciousness of the South.'

Judging by the audience’s enthusiastic response, Vaughen’s 'Billie Holiday on the Radio' could hardly have succeeded in engaging more thoroughly and enjoyably than it did." - Doug Deloach, ArtsATL

If you missed our premiere performance at Eyedrum last summer, don't pass up the opportunity to experience the one-set 2016 version of Billie Holiday on the Radio - and help us prepare for our appearance at the Word of South Festival in Tallahassee in April. The performance will be in the auditorium of the Decatur Public Library. It's part of the Festival of Writers Series, sponsored by the Georgia Center for the Book, and admission is free.

Three Way Mirror is Jeff Crompton, alto saxophone; Bill Pritchard, tuba; and Yaya Brown, percussion.
