ARTIST TALK: Thursday, October 15, 7pm

*In conjunction with Atlanta Celebrates Photography

This exhibition presents the work of five Atlanta-based photographers who are pushing the envelope of experimental photography. Collectively, they answer the question--But Is It Photography?—with a resounding yes!

By definition, photography is a medium that is technology-based, although that technology has dramatically evolved since it’s discovery in the 19th century. Now in the 21st century, the artistic opportunities for innovation and experimentation by using both old and new technology have never been greater.

The work in this exhibition ranges from camera-less images created by chance to chemically-activated and manipulated Polaroid film. This being the digital age, it includes manipulated images appropriated from an iPhone; images of children’s drawings photographed and then exaggerated; and abstract digital improvisations. Some of the work is introspective and personal; some comments upon culture and society. However, the spirit of experimentation unites it all. --Marianne Lambert, Curator

This exhibition is sponsored by the Sara Giles Moore Foundation.
