Carapace: Cracked says
Hey, it's Randy.

In two short weeks ... well, I guess technically the weeks ahead are the same length as other weeks, and may even seem longer because of the wait, so maybe I shouldn't say "short" at all.

Anyway, in two weeks we're back for the next event, and our theme is: CRACKED.

Bring a five to seven-minute story built around whatever comes to mind in work, love, or family. Or maybe all three: how it's work to love a certain family member because s/he's cracked.

Did something valuable to you break, literally? Did you break, figuratively or literally? Femur and tibia narratives are welcome. Feel free to go deeper still, if you like. Maybe you remember the cracks in the ceiling of that room where the big thing happened. Or you can't forget you saw through the crack in the door. Maybe you cracked a case that puzzled you for too long.

"It is harder, most of the time, for human beings to restrain themselves from telling stories than it is for them to keep from shedding tears," the great Robert Bringhurst wrote. "Perhaps that is why human beings keep on going, even when anyone can see they ought to stop and weep."

Sad or happy, funny or not, we want your true personal story goods. There's a crack in everything, which is how the light gets in, right? Tell us a story based on that, maybe. Work in some meaningful lyrics. Man, what a hard year.

But 2016 is over and here we are, so c'mon down to Manuel's for some relief. That's two short or long or usual-sized weeks away. The fun's hosted by fabulous Cris Gray. It's free, as always. There's no judging, ever (as in scorekeeping or the other kind). Just a bunch of people who are pleased to see and maybe hear you, in a cozy venue that can't be topped.

See you at Manny's!
