Carapace Raconteurs: Taking Chances says
Hey, it's Randy at Carapace. Our theme for the next show is (how did you know?) TAKING CHANCES!

Bring a five-minute story crafted around the time you stuck your neck out, surrendered your fate to luck, forged ahead in the face of uncertainty. Tell us how you took a gamble, figuratively or at the tables in Vegas. When did you make your best guess, maybe risk rebuke by some unfortuitous fluke? We wanna hear.

Venkman's has asked us back for a second show (placing a wager, you might say) in that tucked-away building right near the Beltline. We'll be quitting a little early so the band that follows us has time to set up, but we're starting on the dot, so there's time for plenty of stories. Don't forget to reserve a table if you want to be guaranteed a seat.

Feb. 23 happens to be the birthday in 1633 of Samuel Pepys, of whose diary I have all the volumes. Spicy life, that guy had. Took some chances! And at least once, the wife caught him.

Also, we just learned this week that Venkman's was chosen by the Business Insider as one of the coolest new outfits in Atlanta. We couldn't agree more.

Here's a thing I noticed at last month's show. Probably because the venue is more like a cabaret or night club, with a snazzy stage and lighting, we're not always working with a perfectly hushed crowd. But our performers rose to the challenge. I was impressed (again) at how the most compelling stories can make quieter a room that wants to hear what's next.

So c'mon out and wow folks again. Take a chance. Build us an irresistible, five- minute story based on you-know-what.

See you at Venkman's!
