Laverne Cox, the first transgender actress to be featured on the cover of TIME magazine and to receive an Emmy nomination (for her role in the Netflix television series Orange is the New Black), will speak at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 4, 2015. Cox won rave reviews and award nominations for her portrayal of Sophia Burset, the groundbreaking role of an incarcerated African American transgender woman on Orange is the New Black. Cox recently produced and starred in her own television show, TRANSForm Me. Lastly, she was named one of Out Magazine’s Out 100, a top 50 Transgender Icon by The Huffington Post, and one of Metro Source’s 55 People We Love.
