Diy Discussion Series: Diy Spaces
Advertising
Time Out says
Brian Egan opened the Mammal Gallery, a DIY art space and venue, with Chris Yonker. They describe Mammal as providing "a safe space for creative minds." With two levels, they are able to provide avenues for both gallery exhibits (upstairs) and music shows (downstairs)--and sometimes using a mix and everything in between. Brian will speak on his experience and practices in running this DIY space.
After Brian presents his work, we will open the floor to an open forum discussion. Possible topics include: definitions of what constitutes a DIY space, ephemeral/disappearing nature of DIY space, role of the organizer, community role, and questions of ownership.
PLEASE JOIN US THE FOLLOWING WEEK FOR PT II
On March 12th we will continue our discussion about DIY Spaces, highlighting less tangible concerns such as safe(r) spaces, separate/exclusive spaces, and accessibility.
This is an open forum discussion! Any/everyone is strongly encouraged to participate.
Coffee and pastries provided for a small donation! Funds directly support The Low Museum and Murmur.
Murmur and The Low Museum are organizing a series of dialogues with people involved in DIY practices. Each will feature a facilitator and a general theme. After presenting their work for ten minutes, the facilitator will open discussion to the audience.
***Each facilitator is not positioned as authority on the subject and the discussion aspect is not framed as a Q & A. ***!
