Easy Breezy Bike Part Art Bicycle Totem says
"Guess how I made the bull's head? One day, in a pile of objects all jumbled up together, I found an old bicycle seat right next to a rusty set of handlebars. In a flash, they joined together in my head. The idea of the Bull's Head came to me before I had a chance to think. All I did was weld them together... [but] if you were only to see the bull's head and not the bicycle seat and handlebars that form it, the sculpture would lose some of its impact." - Pablo Picasso (Picasso describing his 1942 art piece to visiting photographer George Brassai in 1943)

Austrian artist and graphic designer, Andreas Scheiger, was inspired by Picasso's "Cabeza del toro" and thought that the design could be used as a bicycle hanger. He started collecting used bike parts and found that not all could be used as such. He created several "bull heads," or as he calls them "Upcycle Fetishes" that evoked different personalities. "While working with the old bicycle parts [Scheiger] imagined the history of it and its previous owner." Each piece can stand alone as wall art but can also serve as hooks to hold bike gear and accessories.

We will be calling this "Cabeza del toro" or "Upcycle Fetish," a bicycle totem. The bicycle totem is a symbol of bike rides of past, present, and what is yet to come.

We will be using old bike saddles, handlebars, brake levers, and other bike parts donated by Starter Bikes and Sopo Bicycle Cooperative to create the bicycle totem.

Personalize your bike totem further by bringing an old bike seat or handlebar that you have shared many riding memories but no longer have a use for.

The class fee is $15 to cover art supplies and hardware (Get ticket here).

Additional donations to Starter Bikes and SOPO will be accepted. All art supplies and power tools will be provided. Power tools will have to be shared and assistance to operate them will be provided, if needed. Feel free to bring any extra supplies or bike parts that you may want to complete your piece or tools of choice.

Note: Event limited to 15 participants. You must purchase ticket to attend.
