The Second Asian American Pacific Islander Adoption Forum is being organized by ECAASU, Georgia Tech AASA, and Georgia Tech China Care Club. The event will bring together the growing number of AAPI adoptees in our community for a discussion with other adoptees and non-adoptees. This forum's diverse group of panelists will discuss their own adoption stories dealing with identity, stereotypes, and racism. This public forum serves as safe space for adoptees to share their narratives and ask questions that only other adoptees may understand.

The event will feature a screening of the Somewhere Between documentary. The documentary allows four teenaged Chinese adoptees that are living in different parts of the United States to tell their stories. Their stories will allow attendees to hear what it's like to grow up in modern America as trans-racial adoptees and the difficulties each endures as they struggle to make sense of their lives. As the documentary discusses the journey of each girl finding who they are, we hope each attendee will take time to consider who they are and consider the issues of identity, racism, and gender. Following the documentary screening, we will have a panel discussion composed of middle school to college aged adoptees featuring Haley Zhu-Butler from the documentary.

Haley Zhu-Butler is a Nashville native currently studying at Tulane University in New Orleans. She specializes in linguistics and minors in literature and philosophy. She has spoken across the United States at screenings of the film Somewhere Between and conferences for adult adoptees and has been in reunion with her birth family since 2009.
