The Traveling Show: Beautiful Stranger is the second in a series of community engaged productions made in collaboration with four at-risk preservation sites and surrounding locales across Georgia. This social art experience brings together over 7,000 Georgians to heighten ideas that shape society and ignite the public's imagination, with participation as the communicative glue that breaks down hierarchies between art forms to engage broad audiences that transcend racial, generational and socioeconomic barriers while making us think about our region and our place in it.

History

The Traveling Show launched under the inaugural collaboration of glo and Living Walls, The City Speaks, on September 23, 2013, in Dalton, Georgia. The two trail-blazing public art organizations pooled the respective talents of 15 artists and production specialists to shape interactive community engagement, dynamic conversation and creative vision.

The tour continued to Athens, the 8 towns of Rabun County, Gainesville, with the final stop in Atlanta, for a grand exhibition and the re-activation of Historic Rhodes Theatre, in Midtown Atlanta. For its launch, The Traveling Show encompassed both organizations’ mission of deploying public art to resurrect communities + public places.
