International Whale Shark Day! says
August 30 is International Whale Shark Day!

Whale sharks are slow-moving filter feeding sharks and the largest known fish species in the world and we are fortunate to house four of these gentle giants here at the Aquarium! However, did you know whale sharks are listed as endangered on the IUCN Red List? The wild population of whale sharks has decreased dramatically in recent years due to heavy fishing for shark meat and fins, downgrading their status from vulnerable to endangered.

Join us Tuesday, August 30 for educational fun and activities as we help raise awareness on the importance of protecting the homes of these gentle giants! Be sure to follow along with the festivities with #WhaleSharkDay!

Event includes:
- Narrated Whale Shark Feeding
- Pin the Satellite Tag on the Whale Shark
- “Spot” the Difference in the Whale Sharks
- Selfies with Domino, Georgia Aquarium’s whale shark mascot
- Special grand entrance & party with Domino & friends
- Whale shark themed Deepo's Chat
