Renowned Dutch sound poet Jaap Blonk is coming back to Atlanta and will perform at Eyedrum on Wednesday, March 23 at 8:30pm.

He will present two vocal sets of about 35 minutes each.

The first is a celebration of the Dada centennial (the Dada movement started in 1916 at the Cabaret Voltaire in Zurich), and will consist of some of Blonk’s favourite Dada sound poetry. Featured authors among others will be Hugo Ball, Raoul Hausmann and notably Kurt Schwitters (http://www.jaapblonk.com/Pages/ursonate.html).

The second will be a rendition of his recent vocal cycle “Vibrant Islands” (http://www.jaapblonk.com/Pages/vibrantislands.html).

Jaap Blonk’s recordings (CDs, LPs and cassettes) will be available at the performance, for nice prices.

Jaap Blonk (born 1953 in Woerden, Netherlands) is a self-taught composer and sound poet. His unfinished studies in mathematics and musicology mainly created a penchant for activities in a Dada vein, as did several unsuccessful jobs in offices and other well-organized systems.
In the early 1980s he discovered the power and flexibility of his voice.

At present, he has developed into a specialist in the creation and performance of sound poetry, supported by a powerful stage presence. He performs worldwide on a regular basis.
