Academy Theatre says
"The funniest man I ever saw and the saddest man I ever knew." These are the words of W.C. Fields describing Bert Williams, the first African American to have a leading role on Broadway. Impact Theatre Atlanta, a resident company of the Academy Theatre, presents Nobody: The Story of Bert Williams by C. Robert Jones opening April 8th. The show traces his life from immigrating to the United States to his minstrel show performances to his rise to Broadway fame.

In the early 19th century in the U.S., the image of blacks on stage was created by whites that performed in blackface. Williams' trademark character, Mr. Nobody, was an expansion of the traditional role to create a more fleshed-out character.

This show is rated PG-13, and not suitable for young audiences.
