This meeting and all subsequent meetings will be generally facilitated by Amanda Mills (Murmur). She will also assist in coordinating the zine exhibit and panel. Amanda Mills’ educational background is in English Rhetoric. She has been involved in zine-making since elementary school, including an internship with the Denver Zine Library, teaching a weekly class on zine-making at her high school, forming the Atlanta Zine Library in college, and organizing the Atlanta Zine Fest. Her current project, Murmur, is a community resource for DIY and ephemeral media.

Distribution, exhibitions, and panels with Laura Relyea.
Tuesday, June 2nd
5 - 7 PM
Must be enrolled (can enroll at any time, max 12).

Laura heads Vouched Books, a company that introduces readers to poetry and other literature published by small, independent presses that they might not find at mainstream bookstores. Her distribution method involves setting up “guerrilla bookstores,” or portable tables of books, at local literary events. She also organizes and hosts her own reading series, “Vouched Presents.” Her website features author interviews and book reviews. At last year’s AZF, Laura facilitated an independent literature panel, titled “Support, Community, and DIY Publishing.” She is knee deep in a grassroots method of distribution, promotion, and performance. As such, Laura will speak about the significance of networking, community building, and dialogue as post-production processes. Elizabeth Anderson, Executive Director of Charis, will offer actionable advice on how to approach local businesses about distributing independently-produced zines. She will talk about how this will manifest for the camp participants’ who wish to have their work for sale at Charis.

Attendees are expected to bring the zines that they are working on for the zine exhibit. They are encouraged to share sections on which that they would like to receive feedback. We will finalize logistics of setting up the exhibit and organizing the panel.
