Saturn Valley // Musical Mindz // Professor John says
Saturn Valley formed in 2013 when guitarist Nick Jones joined the jam trio of bassist Charlie Ferrell, drummer Zach Webster and keyboardist Chris Freiberg. Christian McDaniel officially signed on for percussion shortly after, completing the group's current instrument line-up. After recording their first album, "On The Rings," which was released in November 2014, local musician Scott Andrews took over on bass. Hailing from the fertile, music hub of Athens, Ga., the band quickly developed a distinct, improvisatory style with jazz, funk, synth-pop and heavy prog influences. The song "Odysseus" was selected for the 2015 AthFest Compilation Album, among music from other Athens favorites such as Reptar, The Whigs and T. Hardy Morris. In August of 2015 the band released their first live album, “Alive in the Georgia Theatre,” and brought on Alex Eversbusch (formerly Lazy Locomotive, Squisch, The Po' Boys) to replace Webster on drums. The group is currently working toward releasing their second studio album, "Cartographer," in the spring of 2016. With heavy, space-grooves and synth-laden jams, a Valley show is always sure to be a unique, cosmic experience.

John’s electric bass guitar performance has been compared to the playing of Victor Wooten, Marcus Miller, and Stanley Clarke, yet John’s background in hip-hop and R&B production makes for a one of a kind performance. Professor John was chosen as one of Atlanta’s Top 3 RAW Artists of the Year in 2013 (
