Sunday Share | "Las Fallas"

The next installment in our monthly family-style, communal dinner--the Sunday Share--takes its inspiration from the Las Fallas festival in Valencia. For days, locals celebrate St. Joseph while erecting elaborate fallas-complex cardboard and paper-maché structures bearing handmade figurines called ninots–which climb high into the Spanish skies. The fiesta ends in a blazing finale when these unique works of art are symbolically burst into flames and everything that is bad is reborn from the ashes for the new season. The smells of paella and true Spanish tortillas fill the air and feed the masses. Our celebration of this cleansing festival will be a great kick off to our year of Sunday Shares. FIRST COURSE Gambas al ajillo–Georgia shrimp, garlic, bay leaf, chili pepper, and toasted bread Wood-grilled artichoke with lemon aioli Bunuelos de chorizo–chorizo puffs with romesco sauce SECOND COURSE White gazpacho with piquillo pepper relish Ensalada de judias–white bean salad with boquerones, chive, lemon, and boiled egg MAIN COURSE Conejo en pepitoria–braised rabbit, lemon and egg sauce, mushrooms, and thyme Lomo de cerdo con leche–milk-braised pork loin SIDES Refried chickpeas Chorizo, potato, and onion omelet DESSERT Crema catalana–the Spanish version of the French dessert, crème brulée Pasteles de higo–dried fig and candied squash pastries
