The LOW Museum Presents: SEXT

Text-based artwork is a form of conceptual art in which the artist uses language and/or text to present a visual representation of an idea. Text-based art is often showcased in public arenas, such as billboards, large-scale projections, and magazines.

And yet, our personal contact with technologies demonstrates a circulation of text existing in a variety of intimate microcosms: late-night texting, comments on porn blogs, sex ads, and dating apps, allow for varying degrees of the user to hide behind the text, Internet anonymity, and other interface mechanisms that provide a cloak for us, unavailable in IRL.

The LOW Museum explores memes, sex work advertisements, text messages, and other forms of text-based work produced by the anonymous cloud of netizens. We present SEXT, an exploration on how our deliberate choices of lexicon not only produce our sociality, but also reveal how the text we produce reproduces the soft underbelly of oppressions, such as hetero patriarchy, capitalism, and white supremacy.
