All good things must come to an end eventually, and all we can do is hope it ends relatively painlessly. Lucky for us, Venkman’s, the creative comfort food and music venue in Old Fourth Ward, is hosting a completely painless send off party for one of our favorite summer beverages: rosé. This Wine, Swine and Sunshine event (the title "Cork and Pork" was, for better or worse, already taken…) features a selection of six different rosé wines on tap, Heaven Hill Bourbon cocktails, Creature Comforts beer tap takeover including Athena Paradiso: Passionfruit and Guava, whole pig roast and subsequent pork tacos, live music and games out on the Venkman’s patio and back lot to help you part ways with the season of cold, pink wines.

And now, cue the “Circle of Life” music: The hog, a Georgia Heritage hog to be more specific, hails from a farm where it’s fed the same grain that goes into Creature Comforts’ beer. Venkman’s Chef Nick Melvin will be roasting the pig La Caja China style — a.k.a. in a big plywood box filled with charcoal and lined with aluminum to bounce the heat around the pig as it roasts for about 3 hours. They’re serving it taco style, with an array of salsas, salads, veggies and tortillas.

And like we mentioned before, more than just hog roast, this event has all the makings of a backyard party: plenty of booze like rosé on tap, Creature Comforts Athena Paradiso: Passionfruit and Guava beer and Heaven Hill whiskey cocktails, corn hole and other outdoor games, a photo booth and live music (plus a mister to keep you cool). As proverbial icing on the cake, you can hang out back from 2 - 5 p.m., and they’re prepared to move it in and keep the party going in the restaurant with Yacht Rock Revue (additional ticket required) and more good booze and food. If rosé season must end, we're glad it can end on a high note.
