One of the many wonderful things about living in (or travelling to) Thailand is the chance to say “cheers” to the New Year more than once! Soon after celebrating the Chinese New Year back in February, Thais are getting ready to ring in their own New Year this April.
Songkran is nigh and there’s no better place to engage in jolly auspicious activities and fun-filled water splashing than ICONSIAM. The Water Splash Landmark has gotten ahead of everyone in town, celebrating Songkran with a thrilling line-up of activities that are grander than ever!
This year, ICONSIAM is boosting its ambition to be Thailand’s major destination for Songkran. Apart from its intent to showcase the many traditions associated with the Thai New Year and give back happiness to visitors, ICONSIAM also aims to commemorate how Songkran has been listed by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage. So expect 2024’s Thaionic Songkran Celebration 2024 at ICONSIAM to be epic!
To help you get an idea of what’s to come at this massive celebration from April 10 to 21, we’ve rounded up six of the festival’s biggest highlights.
All-day water-splashing landmark
Water-splashing is what has made Songkran globally known. ICONSIAM takes this fun-filled activity up a notch at River Park. ICONSIAM is transforming the River Park area into a water-splashing landmark and also a safe space where visitors can come and splash buckets of water to their heart’s content. While all this water play is going on, live concerts by T-Pop superstars like Non Tanont, MEAN, PROXIE, 4EVE, BUS, ATLAS, and LYKN will be staged.
Songkran Heritage Parade (Lady Parade)
This parade is one of the most recognizable Songkran traditions, and ICONSIAM goes bigger than ever this year by holding one for seven consecutive days. Each day, the march will be led by a renowned Thai celebrity, including Taksaorn “Aff” Paksukcharern, Ranee “Bella” Campen, Rebecca Patricia Armstrong, Rinrada “Pie” Kaewbuasai, Davika “Mai” Hoorne, Diana Flipo, and (G)I-DLE’s Minnie.
Phra Buddha Sihing and water-pouring ceremony
Songkran won’t be complete without some form of merit-making and asking for good wishes from a Buddha statue and the elderly. ICONSIAM is bringing in a replica of the highly respected Phra Buddha Sihing from Wat Phra Singh Woramahawihan in Chiang Mai, which will be displayed at Exit 1 on the ground floor, near River Park.
On April 14, pay respects and ask for good wishes from the elderly at a water-pouring ceremony led by the families of Thai artists and actors.
Special flower shirts by NARAYA and Collector Project
Put away your monotonous clothing and bust out those colorful floral shirts that have become synonymous with Songkran wear. This year, ICONSIAM has teamed up with NARAYA and Collector Project to create special shirts with designs inspired by the flower pattern on the chedis and ubosots in Wat Pho, and jazzed up with elements from pop art.
TikTok shop
This year, the hot social media platform will hold Shoppertainment campaigns throughout Thaiconic Songkran Celebration’s 12-day run. Be on the lookout for online events with the #LittleBoysFallsIntoTheWaterOnlineGame.
Many famous TikTok creators, such as Nutt Nisamanee, Bie the Ska, and Yardpirun, will also make their delightful appearances at this event. Don’t miss the enjoyable Live Commerce from a variety of creators who will be selling a quality selection of Thai products from ICONCRAFT at the TikTok Shop Refill Your Joy: Fill Your Basket with Happiness event.
