Mugendai’s take on grilled goodies is satisfaction guaranteed
Mugendai may mean overpriced Japanese for some (including us), but you can’t deny that their fancy eateries are destinations for some of the freshest sushi in town. Now the team behind this Japanese cuisine giant branches out once again, putting its stamp on premium steak. The result? One of the city’s most satisfying Japanese grilled-meat restaurants.
Tucked in the far corner of The Gourmet Garden, the brand-new fine-dining zone at the always-packed Siam Paragon, Mugendai Steakhouse fires up meaty goodies in a contemporary space dressed up in a red and black color scheme that gives off both a high-end and funky feel.
Carnivores can indulge in prime beef steaks that are either cooked on a teppanyaki iron griddle or a charcoal grill. We opted for the hefty Australian Angus short rib (B1,800), a beautifully marbled beef with an enjoyably chewy texture, served with assorted grilled veggies.
Non-beef eaters won’t feel left out as other meats and a variety of seafood are also offered, including lamb saddle (B1,200) and grilled seabass with beurre blanc butter (B650). The Spanish Ibérico pork chop (B800), another highlight, is briefly sous-vide and then cooked on a teppanyaki grill with garlic butter – the technique brings out every flavorful bite and allows the natural sweetness of the meat to shine through.
Dessert options feature an apple crumble (B170) served with an addictive milk-flavored soft serve ice cream.
Pop by during lunch for a favorably priced deal (B399) that includes your choice of main dish, soup, salad and a soft serve.
